Born & brewed in Wisconsin, Social Cig is the 'Indie-Skate-Rock' music project of Parker Schultz. Consisting of contagious authenticity, cheery live shows, and cultivating an original story with an attitude of gratitude, Social Cig is creating full-circle moments. Leafing through global music scenes with an ambitious DIY approach and writing songs that capture a genuine outlook from a modern-day Midwest cowboy, Social Cig is a well-rounded grassroots venture.
A Social Cig song sorts the ordinaries of boyhood; a lyrical short story woven together by playful strength and catchy grips in the feel-good realm of indie rock. Throughout a college degree, circa 2018, Parker would shyly unveil his defenseless GarageBand demos to friends over hand-packed cigarettes on his Milwaukee duplex balcony. This collection of 12 hobby-songs unknowingly became the debut Social Cig album, ‘Prettier In Person’. After waves of encouraging chats by peers and being asked by an old high school friend to play at a house show down the street, Parker would migrate to a soggy practice space 3 floors below his bedroom (the basement) and create his live band with a rotating cast of friends, Social Cig.
The 2020 lock-down led Parker away from his briefly newfound world of live music. He spent his off days at the skatepark and his isolated nights in his room making music. A virtual college graduation, relationship heartbreak, and accepting recent normalities are themes of Social Cig’s “Covid Project/Sophomore Album”: ‘Nothing Is Ever For Sure And Everything Is Always Changing’.
Social Cig later reemerged in a post-pandemic Milwaukee music scene. Sweaty basement shows morphed into consecutive sold out shows in 300-cap venues. Amidst booking shows and developing the band during a 9 to 5 job in property management, Parker released his third album, ‘CHEESEHEAD’ in 2022.
Parker made the jump to full-time artist in July of 2023. Along with this transition came a 5 song EP titled, ‘In The Pocket’, several tours across the US, a sponsorship deal with Kwik Trip, a merchandise expansion, and 2 shows in Tokyo, Japan. Parker is currently in winter hibernation working on his 4th album with an anticipated September 2025 release. Social Cig will be touring the US with Pretoria in March of 2025 (TBA).
Sketching a memoir and gardening an actively verdant fan base through DIY tours in a minivan, Social Cig continues to expand its landscape by sharing the stage with acts such as Wet Leg, Lime Cordiale, Noah Kahan, Motherfolk, PREP, Arlo Parks, M.A.G.S., Kainalu, Ax and the Hatchetmen, Miloe, Dizzy, The Crowe Boys, Landon Conrath, Motel Breakfast, Windser, Michael Cera Palin, and Lowertown.
